Flurry has released results of its study on the Droid’s first week launch.

By studying the number of unique handsets accessing Android apps through Droid phones, Flurry estimates that there were nearly 250,000 Droids sold during their first week on the market.

The number of Motorola Droids sold is impressive. To put the sales in perspective, compare the Droid’s launch (in the US only) to the the iPhone 3GS, which launched in 8 different countries simultaneously. The Droid sold 250,000 times in one country; the iPhone sold 1.6 million times in 8 countries.

Because of the Droid’s strong launch, the analysts at Flurry foresee the Android making inroads into Apple’s smartphone market share.

To sum it up: “Furthermore, Flurry has monitored a sharp increase in new Android project starts by application developers within its system, a 94% jump in October compared to September. The launch of Droid signals the beginning of a viable platform alternative to the iPhone as Android builds critical mass. As major companies continue to vie for a piece of the exploding Smartphone market, the consumer has never had more choice and innovation in the mobile industry.”

The Wall Street Journal has posted some news on how the Motorola Droid has sold since its launch.

Many Verizon stores have less than half their initial inventory, with some claiming to have only a few Droids left.

Sales were strong launch day, though there weren’t long lines at stores for the launch like there was for the iPhone’s launch.

One analyst expects nearly 1 million Droids to be sold in the fourth quarter of this business year.

Current Verizon customers are expected to embrace the new phone because Verizon is widely believed to have the best wireless network across the United States.

Sandy Castaneda has written about her experience with the HTC Droid Eris.

Castaneda decided to go with the Eris to save $100 (though if she had seen BuyDroidPhones.com she would know she was really only saving $50…). Seems she’s developed buyer’s remorse.

Castaneda wishes she had spent on the Motorola Droid for its keyboard, processing power, Android 2.0, and because after buying apps to make the Eris do what the Droid can do out-of-the-box, the Eris isn’t such a hot deal.

A new article over at PCWorld declares that the Motorola Droid’s launch tomorrow has garnered attention that might have gone to Blackberry’s announcement of two new phones.

This is of little consequence, anyway, writes Daniel Ionescu. The Droid is already considered the best smartphone option next to the iPhone. And with consumers lining up tomorrow to get their hands on a Droid for $200–just $20 more than the lackluster Storm 2–the Droid is simply more competitive than anything Blackberry has to offer at the moment.
