Multitouch Soon On Droid?
Posted by admin in Droid News on December 17, 2009
The recent jailbreaking of the Motorola Droid has unlocked many possibilities for programmers to take advantage of the powerful phone.
When the Droid was first jailbroken, only a week ago, there was speculation that multitouch would be one of the first new features to be released for the Droid.
And just a week later, it looks like multitouch is confirmed. One programmer has migrated the Motorola Milestone’s (the UK Droid, with multitouch) firmware to an American Droid. The final release may be two to three weeks away.

Droid & Android 2.0.1: Expect Significant Improvements
Posted by admin in Droid News on December 11, 2009
The Android operating system running on the Motorola Droid, originally Android 2.0 at launch, is being updated to Android 2.0.1 on handsets as I write this.
Among the few complaints users have about the Droid, one of the most common was that the Droid’s camera was not functioning well. Autofocus wasn’t working well and the camera was just plain slow. These camera issues look to have been taken care of with Android 2.0.1.
There have been some other aesthetic changes made to Android. The lock screen is new, the widgets look polished, and the font displaying the time in the top-left corner of the screen is changed.
Voice reception is also improved. Next to improvements made to the camera, this is probably the best part of the update to Android 2.0.1.
Bluetooth functionality, a glitchy GPS, and battery life are all improved. There are myriad other improvements as well.
If you’d like to read the full list of improvements, head over to PCWorld.
Also, for anyone thinking of picking up a Droid or other new phone, you might think of doing this before midnight. Verizon is offering FREE ACTIVATION ($35-$135 savings) on new phones. For the best deals on the Droid go to either Amazon or Wirefly. If you’re looking for an HTC Droid Eris, visit Wirefly for the best deal available.
Motorola Droid #1 On Time’s Top 10 Gadgets of 2009
Posted by admin in Droid News on December 10, 2009
The Motorola Droid has won Time magazine’s title of the best gadget released during 2009!
Here’s exactly what Time had to say about the Droid:
Everybody likes Android, Google’s open-source smartphone operating system. But a smartphone operating system isn’t all that satisfying without an actual kick-ass smartphone wrapped around it. Now Android has one: The Droid is a hefty beast, a metal behemoth without the gloss and finish of the iPhone, but you don’t miss it. The Droid’s touchscreen is phenomenally sharp and vivid, it has an actual physical (not great, but good enough) keyboard, and best of all, the Droid is on Verizon’s best-of-breed 3G network. It’s Android’s first credible challenge to the iPhone. Price: $300.
Of course, this isn’t news to many of you.
And if this only makes you want a Droid more than ever, though, make sure to check out the savings you can net yourself by checking the deals here, at BuyDroidPhones.com
At the moment, you can get free activation on a new Droid! This deal will only last through tomorrow! You will save at least $35, and if you activate multiple lines, you could save up to $135!
How To Jailbreak Your Droid
Posted by admin in Droid News, Droid Tips on December 10, 2009
Programmers have figured out how to “jailbreak” the Motorola Droid.
What does this mean? With the right instructions, anyone can gain access to the Droid’s file-system.
So programming applications that aren’t condoned by either Verizon or Google is now possible. There is much speculation that an intrepid programmer will figure out how to introduce multi-touch to the Droid.
It is possible to “root” or “jailbreak” your Droid yourself, but be forewarned: if not done correctly, you run the risk of “bricking” your phone, i.e., having a useless Droid.
Also, jailbreaking your Droid voids your warranty.
If you feel up to the challenge, you can follow the steps to jailbreak your Droid here.
